Historic Maps of Victoria Road and Surroundings
This is a map from 1866 which shows the first houses in the road. On the west side numbers 20/22 owned by Andrew Short have been built. On the east side, Albert Cottage which was also owned by Mr Short, 1 to 5 Lorraine Terrace (9-17) all owned by T Westcott and numbers 21/23 owned by Clemens Lovatt were all completed. In addition the small 'Chalk House' on the land of the current number 27 was also built.

This map from 1898 shows the extensive development which had taken place, particularly in the surrounding area and Morland Road and Reading Road in particular. In Victoria Road on the west side number 19 had now been built adjoining 5 Lorraine Terrace and Mr Lovatt had built number 25. On the east side numbers 4-10 had been built by Mr Butcher, 12-14 built by John Hewett and 24 had been built by Andrew Short. The Terrace of 26-34 had also been built by James Hall of Merstham. The 2nd railway line giving a direct line to London had been completed which
was the main reason for the dramatic population increase.

The map of 1913 shows that numbers 3 and 5 had been built by Mr Bennett and numbers 29 and 35 had also been completed. The west side was already completed.

The 1934 map shows that the only change in Victoria Road was that number 37 had been built. In the surrounding area there were not many changes apart from the completion of the development of Albert Road.

The map of 1956 shows number 35 had been built and Gauntlett Road had now also been built. The changes in Victoria Road since this map was produced are the building of the house which is number 33/35, the demolition in the 1970s of all of Lorraine Terrace and numbers 20/22. These demolitions made way for the building of the flats which are now number 16 and 18 on the west side and number 9 on the east.
