'St. James Cottage'

Built about 1907

Number 29 Victoria Road was built in 1907 and named 'St James Cottage' The first known resident of the house was H Wood who lived here in 1908. He was followed in 1909 by V Cosins who had again moved by 1910 .

1910-1932: Sydney Joseph Smith lived here but the house was owned fistly by R Wood then in the late 20s until the early 30s, by Mrs E Wood. The rateable value of the house in 1911 was £22 which was £2 more that 21-25 Victoria Road.

1932-1936: Frederick C Gold lived here and owned the freehold. In 1936 he moved to London Colney.

By 1941, the rateable value had increased to £25 and the total annual rate bill was £13 10s 10d.

1936: In October the house was bought by John Thomas Watson.

1939-1952: Arthur John Harris lived here and owned the property until at least 1952. His rates were waived in the early 1940s as he was listed as being in H M Forces.
